Boy dies after being trapped in car

DALLAS -- A 3-year-old boy died after becoming trapped in a sport utility vehicle as the temperature outside neared 100 degrees.

Police said the death appeared to be an accident.

Cory Clark was playing with siblings and friends in his family's Chevrolet Suburban in suburban Plano when the car door closed, police Sgt. Mark Hunt said.

Police believe Cory was trapped for about 20 minutes before his parents, who were inside, realized what had happened.

Cory was unconscious when paramedics arrived, and he later died at a hospital.

Hunt said he did not know the age of the other children.

It was about 97 degrees at the time, meaning the temperature inside a closed vehicle could have reached 150 degrees, the National Weather Service said.

At least two other North Texas children have died in hot cars this year.
