San Francisco mayor wins restraining order against fake Elvis

SAN FRANCISCO -- Mayor Willie Brown has won a temporary restraining order against a San Francisco man who allegedly stalks him, often dressed as a tuxedo-clad Elvis Presley.

A San Francisco Superior Court judge issued the order requiring Anthony Kneer to stay at least 30 yards away from Brown, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Thursday.

Kneer, 38, has confronted the mayor in his office and at public events. On Jan. 31, dressed as Presley, he allegedly told security officers in Brown's office, "I made it through the front doors without being detected. I could have been armed. What do you think of that?"

Brown's request for the order, issued Friday, said Kneer has "made a credible threat of violence." Kneer has a history of arrests for violent acts, police said in court papers.

"As much as they drive us nuts ... these are the kinds of people for whom attention and notoriety is exactly what they want," said Brown spokesman P.J. Johnston.

The Chronicle said Kneer has not filed papers responding to the petition and could not be reached by phone for comment.
