$8,000 found in man's buttocks

AMARILLO, Texas -- Police found $14,000 on a man who they suspected of smoking marijuana -- including more than $8,000 hidden in his buttocks.

"That's 80 $100 bills," police Cpl. Brent Harlan said Thursday.

Potter County authorities went to court to keep the money seized Tuesday from Carlton Meridith, calling the amount suspicious. Meridith, 32, told officers he got the money by sponsoring a St. Louis rap group called Forty Caliber. St. Louis authorities said no such concert had taken place in recent months and they didn't know of a local band by that name.

Meridith was arrested on a marijuana possession charge. He was released Wednesday.
