Dec. 5, 2001  |  Baby Bing? Not so fast.

Liz Hurley's alleged baby daddy has issued a statement saying he's not so sure he's the one responsible for knocking up the model/actress.

"Ms. Hurley and I were not in an exclusive relationship when she became pregnant," producer and Hurley ex Stephen Bing told the press via fax this week. "It is her choice to be a single mother."

But, choice or no choice, Bing insists he's not one to shirk his parental duties, should a paternity test determine that he is, in fact, the baby's pops. And he's particularly unhappy about recent tabloid reports that he dumped Hurley for another actress as soon as he learned she was pregnant.

"The insinuation that I would not care about the well-being of another human being has been very hurtful to both myself and my family," said Bing. "If indeed I am the father, I will be an extremely involved and responsible parent."

Geez, this guy makes Hugh Grant look like Mr. Devotion.

Vanilla guy

"Cruise and Cruz -- I thought: 'My God, I'm your boyfriend. You're my girlfriend.'"

-- Tom Cruise, revealing his incredibly deep feelings for Penelope Cruz, in Vanity Fair.

And if all that talk about Penelope isn't enough for you

It's official: Tom Cruise is not gay.

So ruled the Los Angeles judge presiding over the actor's $100 million lawsuit against kooky, intensely self-promoting publisher Michael Davis, who at one point claimed to have a video of Cruise caught in the act with another fella.

Davis has admitted that he is not now, nor has he ever been in possession of such a video and that he has no idea if such a thing even exists. The video Davis bandied about was apparently a Cruiseless dud.

"Tom Cruise does not appear on the videotape to which said defendant referred in his statement alleging the complaint," reads a stipulation approved by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Emilie Elias. "The plaintiff is not, and never has been, homosexual and has never had a homosexual affair."

It's amazing what you can tell from a single videotape these days.

Luckier than Liz in love

"He's a good man. You can say I said that with a large smile on my face."

-- Kate Winslet on her new squeeze, "American Beauty" director Sam Mendes, in the London Daily Mail.

Looking for love in all the wrong places

The twists and turns of Kristin Davis' love life are sounding increasingly like a plot line on "Sex and the City," on which she plays Charlotte.

Recently freed from her three-month relationship with Alec Baldwin, the actress tells this week's People magazine that she's happily reunited with ex-boyfriend Reed Diamond, with whom she stars in the ABC Family movie "Three Days," which airs on Dec. 9.

But in the next breath, Davis is wistfully sighing to TV Guide that she's still looking for a fella to fall for. And she'd really like to find one by Christmas.

"I'd like to fall in love," she tells the magazine. "It's been a while."

Guess some Diamonds are not a girl's best friend ...
