Q U O T E--O F--T H E--D A Y Integrity before Peabody Ted Koppel and 'Nightline' literally stole my work, took credit for it, trivialized it, refused to pay me, and then attempted to bully and extort me when I complained. They should not be rewarded for this kind of behavior and I under no circumstances want my name associated with these egregious violations of basic journalistic integrity. -- Bangkok-based journalist Nate Thayer in a letter rejecting a George Foster Peabody Award, the broadcasting equivalent of a Pulitzer, which he was to share with Ted Koppel for his exclusive coverage of the show trial of Pol Pot last July. Thayer, the first ever to turn down a Peabody, says ABC wrongly distributed his text and photos over the Internet and to other news sources. Quoted in the May 25 New Yorker. |
