No more Mr. Nice Cop

And ain't no more stop, ask some questions, send you on your way. Now it's 'Get your hands on the f---ing wall, shut up, turn around' and if you're lucky you might not get anything planted on you. And when you go in front of the judge, ain't no more 'Let's see what the deal is. Let's see if the cop is lying.' It's whatever the cops say, 'That's what we hitting you with -- take it or leave it.' They're taking people to trial with no evidence: no drugs, no type of paraphernalia. They're arresting people for no apparent reason. That's why crime is down.”

-- Barry, a 21-year-old ex-con, remarking on changes in law enforcement in his Bronx neighborhood. Quoted in the May 25 U.S. News and World Report.
