SALON'S "LETTERS TO THE EDITOR" POLICY

Salon receives hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of letters to the editor each day. The purpose of the "Letters to the Editor" section is to publish a representative sample of this correspondence. We do not publish every letter. Articulate and brief letters are more likely to be published. Letters sent directly to individual Salon writers may be forwarded to the Letters editor for consideration, but will not be published without permission. Salon reserves the right to edit submitted letters for length, grammar and spelling. However, we will do our best to preserve the original's style and intent. Correspondence to individual authors of Salon articles will be forwarded at the editor's discretion. Salon does its best to verify the identity of letter writers, but takes no responsibility for people who falsely identify themselves. The opinions and claims in published letters belong to the writers, and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Salon or its sponsors. Information such as e-mail addresses, phone numbers and addresses provided with letters submitted to the editor will not be used for any reason other than verification and will not appear on the site. If you would like to submit a letter to the editor for publication, please e-mail us at letters@salonmagazine.com. Place the name of the article you are responding to in the subject heading of your e-mail. If you do not wish your letter to be published, please say so in the subject line. Letters sent by fax or "snail mail" are less likely to be accepted. Do not send attachments. Please include your full name and a phone number where you can be reached during business hours, so we can confirm your identity.
