Sneak peek: "The Hunting of the President"

An exclusive digital excerpt of the new documentary based on Joe Conason's bestseller, featuring Susan McDougal, David Brock and Paul Begala.

We can't pretend to be objective observers of "The Hunting of the President," the new documentary by director Harry Thomason and Nickolas Perry, which is based on the book of the same name by Salon's own Joe Conason and Gene Lyons. That book -- which drew heavily on Conason's intrepid reporting for Salon and the New York Observer -- documented in great detail the systematic campaign to attack the Clinton administration by a shadowy group of conservative activists, which was carried out by a frequently craven, misguided press corps.

We excerpted the book for Salon readers (here, here, here and here) and now offer this clip for those wanting to see what to expect from the documentary -- which opens Friday July 16 in the San Francisco Bay Area, with theatres and subsequent release dates announced here.
