SALON'S TV PICKS FOR
TUESDAY, MARCH 30, 1999
BY JOYCE MILLMAN

S E R I E S

Nova (check local times, PBS) presents "Volcanoes of the Deep," in which oceanographers, armed with a robotic submersible, attempt to raise super-hot volcanic "chimneys" from the ocean floor and bring them to land for study. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (8 p.m., WB) reruns the one where Buffy's mom leads the townsfolk in a witch hunt. If you've never seen the Felicity pilot (9 p.m., WB), here's your chance to catch an instant pop cultural icon. Dan has another bad show with psycho guest anchor Bobbi Bernstein on Sports Night (9:30 p.m., ABC). On a rerun of NYPD Blue (10 p.m., ABC), Danny gets "stirred up" (and he "don't like to get stirred up") by a mom and pop store robbery-homicide. Also, Diane and Jill learn about Dolores' dark side.

In Facing the Truth With Bill Moyers (check local times, PBS), Moyers travels to South Africa during the Truth and Reconciliation Commission hearings, in which victims and perpetrators of apartheid crimes try to reach an understanding. The 1995 thriller Species (9 p.m., CBS) has its network premiere. Natasha Henstridge plays scientist Ben Kingsley's escaped human-alien lab experiment.
