"Blood Sugar"

By Nicole Blackman

Oct. 05, 2000 | Nicole Blackman has performed her poetry on NPR, MTV Radio, SPIN Radio, Request On-Air, and CBC Radio Canada. Her work has appeared in the anthologies Aloud: Voices From The Nuyorican Poets' Cafe, and Poetry Nation, among others. Her first book of poetry, "Blood Sugar," will be Summer 2000.

It is futile to resist her brutal accounts of obsession and beauty. So give in. Listen to these new exclusive poems from Blackman's upcoming book, recorded in Times Square and on a New York subway, respectively (produced and mixed by John Van Eaton).

"Sexually charged...Nothing prepares the listener for this dark, disturbing direction...Nicole Blackman's spoken word portraits of fear, violence, death and decay. She sounds like a more deadpan Laurie Anderson, lost in a bleak world of psychosexual tension and hollow ideals. It's hard to top..." -Boston Globe

"Alt-rock diva, wise-cracking Blackman is not so much the poetic conscience of Gen X as its caustic avenger." - Village Voice
