The email lifeline

BY CHARLIE VARON AND JIM ROSENAU
The situation: For several years you've been out of touch with an old friend. Now you learn the friend has joined an apocalyptic, millennial cult that's cut off from the outside world -- no newspapers, no CNN, not even access to the Internet. Once a year, however, your friend is allowed to receive an e-mail message of up to 23 words.

Readers are invited to submit such a message. Try to bring your friend up to date on the events of the year and convince him or her to rejoin the world.
